Simplehost offers E-mail services with the security of SSL encryption.
Server Settings
POP3s: mail.simplehost.co.nz port: 995
IMAPs: mail.simplehost.co.nz port: 993
SMTP TLS: mail.simplehost.co.nz port: 25 / 587
SMTP SSL: mail.simplehost.co.nz port: 465
Please see the instructions below for your E-mail client. If your client is not listed here please contact us if you require assistance setting this up.
Remember your email username is the same as your mailbox address, for example: john@company.co.nz.
This will guide you through configuring secure e-mail services on an existing e-mail account.
Thunderbird
Open up Thunderbird.
SMTP Section
- From the top toolbar click Tools > Account Settings
- Click on "Outgoing Server (SMTP)"
- Click the Edit button after selecting your email address in the list.
Ensure the "Server Name" field is set to: mail.simplehost.co.nz
- Tick the box labelled "Use name and password" - this is optional, but recommended. You can still send e-mail while authenticated via pop-before-smtp.
For SMTP there are two options. STARTTLS or SSL/TLS - essentially these are the same, the main difference you'll notice is that SSL/TLS uses port 465, where STARTTLS will work on either 25 or 587. If you are not sure, use SSL/TLS (port 465).
- Select your choice of STARTTLS or SSL/TLS
- Click OK

While still in Account Settings
- Click "Server Settings" under the drop down list for your e-mail address.
Ensure the "Server Name" field is set to: mail.simplehost.co.nz
- Click the button for "SSL" under "Security Settings"
Ensure the "Port" field is set to "995"
IMAP Section
While still in Account Settings
- Click "Server Settings" under the drop down list for your e-mail address.
Ensure the "Server Name" field is set to: mail.simplehost.co.nz
- Select the option for "SSL/TLS" under "Security Settings"
Ensure the Port number is set to "993"
Click OK and check your settings work as expected.
